1999 S80 2.5D Oxygen sensor issue.

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

1999 S80 2.5D Oxygen sensor issue.

Post by Kevintye »

Hi everybody.
This is my first post, so I will say sorry now for any protocol errors etc.

I have just purchased an S80 2.5D 1999. It drives great. I have done around 400 miles in the four days I have owned it.

Problem:
At around 80miles per hour a warning light on the dashboard illuminates. It looks like the Lambda sign. The vehicle message display unit says: fix engine next service or something vrey similar.
The vehicle then goes in to Limp mode.

When the engine is turned off and then restarted, the message disappears, the Lambda light statys on but the vehicle is no longer in limp mode until 80PMh is reached.

I tried to use my generic OBD2 scanner to retrieve the code but I received "LINKING ERROR" on my reader.
I used a local guy who has better equipment than me. He found four codes 0012, 0013, 0018, 00057.

I have tried to convert these and the 0057 code translates as Heated Oxygen sensor bank 2 low signal.

Having carried out some research I discovered that fuse number 19 would be a good starting point.
A space for fuse 19 exists but it is a blank so is 20 and 21.

I have also carried out a physical inspection and I simply can not find the two Oxygen sensors that are supposed to be fitted to the car.

My questions are simple: Does a 1999 S80 2.5 Diesel have oxygen sensors? If so, where are they?

Many thanks...

Well I guess the 24 viewers don't know either...I feel better now.

The car has stayed out of limp mode and the warning light has not come back on since I posted the first message here.
I have not been on a motorway but have covered around 80 miles locally. I will find out today if the fault returns when I drive on the motorway.

Point to note: The Haynes car manual for the V70 & S80 DOES NOT cover the 2.5 diesel model....such a shame because I have a shiney new manual sitting next to me....The could have put it in big letters on the front instead of tiny letters on the back cover!
