How to remove climate control panel in 2001 v70xc

Post by larrycrilley »

Anyone have a "how to" on getting the climate control panel out on 01 v70xc. I need to change the cabin sensor and worked up a good sweat today attempting to get it out. I surrendered instead running the chance of damaging something...the wiser me instead is asking for help!

Thanks

Remove the panel around the gear selector panel and then depress tabs at the 4 corners of gear selector panel and leave the GS panel. Undo the two bottom screws below the CC panel. Insert a plastic or other non-marring prying tool between bottom of radio face and top of CC panel face. This will push the latch tabs out of place between the radio and CC panel. Fashion a tool from a piece of straight coat hanger wire with a bent 90 degree end. The length of the bent part should be 10mm long and the tool should be 175 mm (7 inches) at least with an end you can grasp well.
Put the tool in the gap and push it to the rear and then turn the bent end down and "hook" the back top edge of the CC module. Now pull the CC module to rear of car to remove. There are two springs that pull the CCM up towards bottom of radio. The tabs on top on CCM catch into slots in the bottom of radio. It is very hard, as you have found, to get any leverage to get the tabs to come free of the slots they have docked in while the spring s try to keep them in place. The item you wedge between does that but you have to have a way to pull the CCM out of position.
