2001 xc 70 won't start

Post by dvo »

I have a 2001 xc70 turbo that will not start. My wife was driving and it just quit running. :(
While trying to start it would run for about a second and stop this happened about 5 times. After getting it back to the house I changed the fuel filter, checked the fuse and swapped the relay with the one for the fog lights, still no start. :x Pulled the cap from the fuel rail and fuel runs out when the key is turned on but does not spray like I would expect. I think the fuel pump is ok or I wouldn't have fuel at the fuel rail, am I correct in this thinking? Right now I am at a loss as to what else it could be. Any one have a thought on this? :?:

Is there a CEL or DTC. If it does, have it scanned by your local parts store then post here. The experts will then chime in. How many miles on odo.? Its a weekend so they're having fun somewhere.

What about the ICM (ignition control module) are you getting spark?

I have not checked for spark as it did start and try to run for about a second each time I tried. I will do that today.

Decided it is time for it to go. :(
Put it for sale hope someone will be able to fix the problem and enjoy it for a long time as I have. :)

Wow!! Forum members here have held on to cars and sorted them with far more problems than this.

Have you checked the fuel pressure properly? It should squirt out at the rail with great velocity. The fuel pump's regulator may be needed. I think with this model it's built in to the pump but you could purchase an aftermarket one inexpensively.

Don't give up yet. With no codes showing it's likely something relatively simple.
Rear hatch may require a fully charged battery. With all that cranking voltage is likely quite low now.

Sounds like a fuel regulator issue: here is a youtube video from a guy with a volvo displaying the same problem

I live in a remote area so getting parts from a dealer is quite an ordeal. :(
I don't have a garage, necessary tools or a decent area to work on a vehicle that is why I decided to sell it. :?
If any one on the forum is interested in purchasing it I have a price of $4500.00 dollars on it, just let me know. :D
