P0014 Code After New Timing Belt And Tensioner? Oh no.

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

There is lot on tb at MVS. I recently did my 97 850 NA. Very helpful material for DIYers and first timers. Look through here viewtopic.php?f=1&t=50450.

Sounds like the timing is wrong alright. I wouldnt worry too much about damage though.
Did you remove the pulley from the camshaft? Setting the VVT pulley can be tricky the first time.

You cant really use the guide linked above as a reference as the older cars dont have VVT.
Checkout this thread with my own comments on how to set it: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... it=+timing

thanks boosted, here is what i did,

1 lined the crank pulley/gear with the back of the oil pump cover NOTCH

2 routed the belt through the bottom to the intake cam and made sure the intake marking on the gear is lined up with the marking of the timing cover

3 routed the left side up through the water pump and holding the VVT cam gear with the torx turned it a bit clockwise passed the mark on the cover by one tooth, slipped the belt on and let it go slowly

4 installed the dampener and let the pin go and now its fully tight/tensioned
the marks all lined up, turned the crank by hand a few times they landed right on the marks

havnt started it yet!

note: i never removed the cam gears or adjusted them as they were in the original setting when i removed the old belt!

all i did was shut the car off (after transmission overhaul :) ) removed the TB, damper and tensioner and roller bearing, replaced them all and installed the new TB. at first, when i posted this topic, the car was running weak and rough, and the P0014 code poped up, so today i redid everything, too tired i called it a day. ill try it out tomorrow.

thanks again, all ideas are always welcome peace!

Did you loosen the three small bolts on the VVT pulley? The kicker with the VVT is that the marks can all be lined up, but the timing can still be off. Not off enough to do damage, buy enough to cause poor starting and rough running.

i figured out what caused the misfire and P0300 after the timing belt was fixed.

may have been bad gas for sitting 8 months while i did the transformation, so i syphoned the old gas and added 91 octane , still ran rough a little but better , after checking evert coil , i found hairline cracks on all of them, before i was going to spend money on the coil i , tried a little trick , i epoxy'd all the cracks and inside the boots i added a later of high temp silicone, i waited about an hour for it all to dry, cranked it up, still tough idle and low power with P0300 code, i was ready to stop when i thought i may have had 2 of the coil wires reversed, so i switched and then BOOMMMM! the car runs normal now, with no codes! :) im happy and the transmission is in with Tripple edge kit and fresh turbos, new subfram bushings, sway bar links and polished a few things, new plugs, Mobil 1 with Wix filter, Valvoline Dex 6(synth.) and voila! , next is brand new 18'' tired on my Nebula's and wheel spacers and so on... stay tuned ;)
