I recently purchased a used 2002 S80 and have realized how many systems are not working. I've been avoiding going to the dealer for help due to cost, but my visit may be inevitable from what I've been reading here. I'm hoping for some insight so as to avoid unnecessary cost as I am new to the Volvo world.
#1 issue: The interior courtesy lights, they do not function unless I pull the #28 fuse and re-insert. Then all the lights come on, but stay on when the doors are closed. I can push the buttons on the dome light console and the lights go on and off as they should. After about 10 minutes, they do not work again. Even the back lighting for the switches goes out. This also affects the homelink buttons as well. However, the switch on the dome console to open and close the sun roof do work.
#2 issue: The buttons on the steering wheel do not work (cruise control or stereo controls), however the horn does work OK.
#3 issue: The text screen is blank/dark all the time.
#4 issue: Door locks will only lock from door panel, but not unlock and siren does not work...only flashing lights.
I know this is a lot and maybe I should break it up into different posts, but I am obviously new to this forum and hoping I did not make a mistake buying this car, but I wanted the Volvo safety record and this is all I could afford. Thanks for any info/advise anyone can give me.

A good start would be to unplug the siren you'll find when pull back the RF fender liner above/in front of wheel.
Then do a battery reset to reboot everything. Disconnect the neg cable and touch and hold it to the pos cable for 30 seconds and then re-connect. This does not short the battery. It does short the circuits to drain capacitors that can keep the individual modules on the car from doing a complete reboot.
Then lock and unlock the doors with a remote to exit transport mode that car goes into when battery is disconnected.

Well, gave it a go and did not have any luck. I've scheduled an appt. with a local Volvo dealer and will let everyone know what they find out. Hopefully it the troubleshooting will help someone else out with the same issue.
Finally took my car to Volvo dealership today and here are some of the results. All dollar figures are before labor.
Not sure about buttons on steering wheel module...thinks could be SWM $300
Interior Lights, bad overhead console...$200
Remote not working, bad UEM...$900
Loor Locks, bad passenger door module...$300
Dont have quote on text window yet, probably wanted to give me time to finish crying.

Might be time to buy a VIDA\DICE from China and start pulling parts from a boneyard.
Good luck!
