I inherited a '94 940 Turbo (station wagon) with 231k km's on it. Only issue with it is that the coolant leaks (externally) onto the drive way. I will refill the coolant tank and within 2 months it's empty already. It's definitely an external leak, and I think that it also leaks while I drive. Sometimes when I park the car, the fan runs for about 5 mins after I've turned the car off.
Note that I don't have any temperature issues - the car runs at the usual temperature (half way up the gauge, doesn't go past that ever). I don't know too much about mechanics but here's what I gather:
The tank itself doesn't have a hole in it. The hoses seem to be fine and fastened properly. As far as I can tell there is no coolant splashed/leaked anywhere visible on the engine/under the hood. However the bottom of the heating core seems to have coolant drips all over it, and that seems to be where the coolant is leaking onto the pavement. I think the core even has some little cracks on it's bottom right side. I can't tell too well because I don't have jack, but this is what I can see. Either the coolant pump or the core has to be replaced, am I right? The core and the pump are both original parts.
Anyone else have this issue? Anything else I should be looking for?
