I (my daughter actually) has a 2008 S40 (45K miles) and is receiving the message that ABS/Anti-Skid service is required.
A little history: This vehicle has recently had both the front right bearing assembly as well as CV axle replaced due to a collision. The vehicle operated without issue for two months since the repair before the light came on. The car is away at college with my daughter and the nearest dealer is 250 miles away. A local Indy with a standard code reader (I don't know the codes he got) said it points to the right front. They flip-flopped the left and right ABS sensors to see if they could pinpoint the issue as sensor or if they needed to dig deeper. Flipping the sensors still pointed back to the right side. That said, wire inspections and (I think) resistance readings on the leads were apparently within normal, but I can't say for sure.
My question: Is the "tone ring" for lack of a better term located in the bearing assembly or on the CV Axle? It would seem logical to me that one of these parts is causing the issue. What are your opinions, thoughts, suggestions on how to properly diagnose and repair without going to retrieve the vehicle and take it to the dealer? Also, in case this is major, the vehicle is still under factory warranty, so if this happens to be the abs module that failed, would that be a warranted repair?
Thanks!
