Rear control arm
Rear control arm
During a wheel alignment the dude found a broken rear control arm (axle) mount. Through this site I found part #s. My problem is this... there are mounts for left and right. The mount for the left wheel is actually on the right side of the car. So, the bad mount is on the pass. side which is actually the driver side axle. Which one do I buy ? Given the problems removing the frozen mounting bolts, I don't really want to do both. Do the mounts come with a new bush? Also, the trouble with my fan speed was the resistor. Part is on the way. I am having trouble following exactly what the problem is - perhaps a terminology problem.
What car are we talking about here? On the front wheel drive cars there is no rear axle or control arm. Volvo uses a split trailing arm system that they refer to as "Delta Links". The bushings between the trailing arms are designed to flex under load and they add an element of passive rear steering to the car at speed. The "axle" on the FWD cars isn't an axle at all, it is just a hub on the end of the trailing arm element.
FCP has some very decent online diagrams of the rear suspension / steering system.

According to the pic. link you sent me, I need the part circled # 4-L 4-R that bolts onto the pass. side of the car. The part marked #1 has also been referred to as a trailing arm bushing depending on where you look it up. Some places call the part I need an " anchorage". Sooo the delima ... the bushing that bolts onto the pass. side of the car is also bolted to the driver side trailing arm. Do I buy a driver side trailing arm bushing... because it supports the driver side trailing arm, or a pass. side bushing because it bolts onto the pass. side of the car? Ken

The part is all the same, same part number no matter which side of the car it is bolted onto. The Volvo OEM part number is 9181013. Volvo officially calls it an anchorage but everyone else calls it a bushing. Obviously you need to replace whichever one is bad irrespective of whether or not it is called left or right.
CarQuest can look stuff up via the OEM part number and cross it into their World Pac parts line. The World Pac part is likely either an APA-URO or a Scan Tech part. The one and only Scan Tech part I have ever bought that was decent was the trailing arm to chassis bushing. I have had it on for well over 100k miles and it is still good. I would never make such a guarantee on the bushings though, I have never used them and I am, by experience, skeptical of anything Scan Tech.

Thanks for busting me, they are different. I'm just learning the nuances of the new VIDA installation and the parts list made no distinction. It doesn't really help that I am just guessing as to what the car is anyway.
The bushing on the left side of the car is 9181013, and the bushing on the right side of the car is 9181027.
