1998 v70 XC Catalytic Converter - Willets Point Queens

The cat in my v70 is shot. It makes a loud clanging noise. The problem is I can't find a mechanic who is willing to tackle the job. I've been told that the cat is part of a piece that extends the length of the car and replacing the whole thing would be extremely expensive. The alternative is cutting out the cat and replacing it with an after market one. None of the mechanics I've talked to can do this and they keep suggesting I go to Willets Point in Queens where it's more likely I'll find someone who can take care of this. Does anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks in advance.
