tire rotation
What is the proper tire pattern for rotation front to back or back criss-cross to front?

That depends on the tyres. If they are directional they should always have the little arrow pointing forwards. These are rotated by switching the front right with the rear right and the front left with the rear left.
To rotate non-directional tyres, use the cross pattern.
For cars with rear-wheel drive, move the front tyres to the opposite sides of the rear: left-front to right-rear and right-front to left-rear. The rear tyres are moved straight forward.
On cars with front-wheel drive, just do the opposite. Move the rear tyres to the opposite sides of the front and move the front tyres straight back.
Have fun as it is something I never do.
Bill.
