Smoke from Ignition - Steering Column

Post by Cossack »

This morning after turning the car on, I noticed smoke coming from under the steering column cover behind the (steering) wheel. I did not get a chance to take a long look, but has anyone ever seen this before? Is there a common cause? Could it be the ignition switch?

Any help appreciated.

Turns out the cause for the smoke was a shorted contact in the wiper contol lever on the right side of the steering wheel. Should be easy to replace, 2 screws and a connector. Did the left side lever (lights - blinkers) last year and it was a breeze. Will post a picture in a near future.
