Turbo Fixing of a Volvo S60 T5 2001

Post by Sandy15 »

Hey, I have a doubt about what may have happened with my volvo. The car overheated recently, I turned it off and when I tried to turn it on, it didn't start. When we checked, it didn't have water and the water tank had oil waste, we thought that maybe the overheating might had damaged the cover block (tapa del bloque). Later on, we tried starting it and it started, and actually it functions without water, but the smoke that comes out of the exhaust is super white and dense because its burning oil, and when the car has water it fails and turns off. Today we took out the turbo, and observed that it was dripping water and that maybe the oil and the water are mixing somewhere in the turbo and that's the reason for the white smoke and the failing. What suggestion do you have about what might be happening with the car? Thanx!

I'm going to move your post to the S60 forum. The only way that the coolant and the oil can mix in the turbo is if the actual housing breaks which would be quite rare.

I would suggest head gasket. Pull spark plugs, look for water. Apply shop air to cylinder and check for air flow or bubbles in the coolant reservoir.

Had a similar problem it was not the cylinder head or cracked block but rather a bad oil cooler. in my case the oil was leaking into the cooling system, but have seen it leak both and or the other way around. a Volvo master tech said he had never seen this before, but after he fixed my XC70 he just saw it on a S60 as the oil was leaking from the cooler. Flush the cooling system with plain water after replacement several times confirmed the fix. Drained the oil filled it with cheap dino oil to flush engine Then flushed radiator( leave over flow cap open ) used Dawn dish washing soap but it foamed way too much. Cascade wash x2 rinse 10 or so times both obviously were with water. Next I had to replace all radiator and heater hoses but still cheaper than doing a head gasket it did not need. Determine what is wrong 1st. Good Luck NB got cooler at pick and pull for $20 USD.
