I have a 2000 S40 1.9T with an automatic transmission. I am curious what others are getting as far as RPM on the interstate. When I am traveling 75mph my tach is reading 3,000 rpm. It seems a bit high to me and it feels/sounds like the engine is working too hard. Is this normal? I have counted the shift points and it shifts three times. That would be from 1st to 2nd to 3rd and to what I understand is 4th or overdrive. Is there supposed to be a 5th gear for overdrive or am I counting the gears correctly?
Thank you for any help you can give me on this!

I'm pretty sure a 2000 has only a 4sp transmission. So 3000 at 75 mph wouldn't surprise me.
Although it is more noisy, 3000 rpm is not doing any damage to your engine.
Don't feel too bad, my 544 turns about 3680 at 60 mph because of it's 4.56:1 rear end!
