I'm looking at one being offered on Craigslist now, supposedly clean Carfax and dealer maintained.
What are common issues I should watch out for upon inspection? Is this a model I should stay away from?
I used to own a 1996 850 and was able to do some limited work on it, if that helps.

Just like any used car it all depends on previous maintenance. If it's all up-to-date chances are you're getting a good deal. But then again, you should go over the car systems to assess condition - there are used cars check sheets on the net. As far as "dealer maintained" so was my 2005. And still has noisy alternator bearing, leak by the steering pump (fixed), noisy steering rack turning right, electrical issues, trunk latch intermittent, rubbing tires when turning, etc. And I thought 50K miles was low miles for a Volvo... How many miles on the 2008?

2.5T's have a great track record.
Rubbing tires is there to give you audible warning you are moving with the steering at full lock. At least on wider tired S60/V70
