Spark plug hassle

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Spark plug hassle

Post by MickS80 »

So im my local motor factors I was givin Champion OE 136 Platinum €60 ( ) for my 2.0T S80 2002.

They are single electrode as are they original Volvo plugs but every one says use multi electrode??

Every site I check will only show up sinlge electrode plugs :?:

So what plugs are multi electrode and where in the name of God can I get them

Reason I am changing is the dealer I bought it off in September only used standard plugs. The car Idles rough and accelerates rough to....Checked the computer and only the Clutch position sensor came up!

Cleaned the throttle body to so I'm guessing its the plugs....just need to get the right ones :?:

Thanks lads

Turbo models from factory had singles with platinum faces.
Non-turbo had the multi-electrode.

your owners manual should have the correct part number in it. No manual ? try Volvocars.com you can get your manual online. still can't find it? Make certain you or the supplier looks the plugs up for your car "never" use an interchange for spark plugs. your depending on someone else to make a very critical decision for you & your car. There are numerous online parts suppliers you can look up your own parts online. It's very easy. good luck

Just realised you are from Ireland. From Dublin myself. Platinum should be OK. Copper is my preference but you have to change them more often.
Gap them to .26" (.66mm).

I would try the Bosch super copper plus and get a gap tool and gap to .28", Trust me this is your best bet. You have a turbo so you want plugs that burn hotter as do copper. Just make sure u get the dollar gap tool to make sure there 0.28". I immediately noticed the performance and revs went all the way down faster. Last ones i had were champion copper but these Bosch i think are way better. Did you get them yet and if so what kind? If you didn't get them go with the coppers.

Already threw in the Single Platinum plugs! Used the standard gap which is unknow as I can't seem to find it anywhere!

I will fix the gap and see what happens...car is still spluttery/ hesitant on acceleration so I'm guessing throttle body if plugs don't sort it?

The car is 02 so I thought the throttle body issue's were sorted but maybe not????

Eh go with the coppers gaped at .28 next time, telling u lol. Copper will handle more heat but wont last as long so there better but just life is less then the fancy ones. What is exactly your problems? whats the rpm's at? Its most likely fuel or spark. Make sure all spark plugs are pressed in the wires and cap. Make sure idle air control valve is plugged firm re plug it, same with maf. Check coil ( while car is running take of coil wire but keep it close and don't let it pull away from the coil, So this way it will form an arc and you will see the current running to the coil it should be a good spark. When you pull it out keep it real close like a centimeter to see if its working good. Check all vacuum hose's. Fuel filter, Fuses. EVERYTHING lol!!! It can be so many problems but i cant really no your problem unless you get more exact with it.

Aside from Volvo OEM plugs, these cars run like crap on platinum plugs.
