2004 V70 - Alarm Service Required

Is the "alarm service required" message simply the death throes of the alarm module (i.e., time for an expensive dealer battery change), or something else?

Hello E Showell,

My V70-T5 also shows this each time the remote has been used to set the alarm and then unlocked. It has done this for ages. It is due to the back-up battery in the alarm unit ( in wheel-arch apparently ) not holding it's charge and hence unable to provide power for the alarm sounder, if required. One day I may have a look at it and change the battery, it must be replaceable with a bit of thought.
At this moment though, I have more pressing problems with the car which I will be putting in it's own post in a minute or two.

Yep -- I've been doing a bit of reading. Apparently the batteries leak and degrade the electronics. There is a DIY fix posted either here or on another Volvo forum. Not sure I remember which.
