1991 VOLVO 240 Intermittent NO START.

Hello Volvo Forum!!

We have a 1991 Volvo 240 non Turbo sedan that will turn over (good battery) but will not start. This happens when you least expect it. I checked for codes and found none. (1-1-1). The car runs very well most of the time. After sitting awhile it starts perfect. The in tank Pre Pump was replaced so I do not think that or the main pump is at fault.(no loud buzzing noise).
Fuel Pump Relay was replaced not to long ago.(it buzzes just fine). I read about the Fuel Pressure Regulator, but that seems to be a sturdy component to me. I thought I smelled gas coming from the engine area after shut down. I doubt it is the ECU computer.

My Question- Does anyone have a "Checklist" to run through for this Annoying intermittent no start condition?
Also, when the AC Compressor is running- I can hear the engine want to stall for about a second. My guess is a load on the
B230 every time the compressor cycles.

On the 240 there is a 25 amp blade type fuse located on the left wheel housing near the ignition coil. If the fuse or its holder are corroded you can get a no start situation.

Attached is a check list for no-start on the 240. Ignore the year as it is the same for the 1991 model.

The AC 'problem' is normal as the compressor puts an extra load on the engine.
