Stiff gas pedal

Hello all, my 2001 volvo s40 have recently been having issues with the gas pedal sticking. It's more of it being stiff when pressed on, but fine once it's pressed, but once I left my foot off often gas pedal. It is stiff once I press on it again to accelerate. Not sure if I should be driving it with this problem.

You probably have a dirty throttle body. The throttle body is coated with gunk that is sticking the butterfly valve closed. Once you open the valve slightly by pressing on the gas pedal, the valve unsticks and the valve will move fine. Take it apart and clean the air passage with carb cleaner, don't get any carb cleaner on the throttle position sensor or you'll ruin it.
