Possible new contribution to sheer bolt removal

Post by rswaty »

Hello all,
After starting my V70 with a screwdriver for 2 months I finally got around to replacing the ignition tumbler. There are lots of good ideas on how to get the sheer bolts out and I am hoping what I came up with helps someone as it was quick and easy. I simply took a Dremel tool with a small cut-off wheel and cut a slot into the top of each sheer bolt so that I could use a flat-head screwdriver. Below is a photo...you'll note that the upper half of the tumbler "frame" was cut a bit too, but that didn't matter as I was replacing that anyways.

I am guessing someone else has thought of this...but I didn't see it posted anywhere.

Thanks and hope this small contribution helps someone!

Thanks Randy,

This looks like a great tip. Do you have a larger picture? You don't need to use other hosting services to add a picture to your post. There is an upload attachment button at the bottom of the post (and edit) screen where you can directly upload the picture from your computer to the MVS servers.

This is preferable anyway since we have had problems with pictures that are an important part of a post disappearing and renering the post somewhat useless.
