RZ Design turbo install on S60R

Post by RyeZ »

As many of you may know from Fast Friday #30, RZ Design has been developing a big turbo kit for all P80 and P2 turbo 5 cyl Volvos! This last weekend, we took delivery of a customer's 2007 S60R GT to test fit the very first production kit. The following is a photo log of the install and tuning that will be completed by the end of this week:

Outstanding, Rye. What are your or his plans to tune it now that it's on the R? Benchmark, fiddle, benchmark, repeat?

The R32 turbo is now on the S60R! Everything went together as planned, and the over the engine pipe and downpipe turned out beautifully!

The car is now in the hands of Rob "Lucky" at ARD for tuning. He will basically be doing what you mentioned Matt, but with a fair bit of calculation involved as well. For the most part, the process goes something like this:

Calculate the estimated changes that need to be made to the ECU mapping. Modify ECU mapping and flash the ECU. Data log the car. Use the information from data logging to run more calculations for a more refined estimate. Apply changes to the ECU and re-flash. Data log the car again. And the process repeats until the desired results are obtained. This needs to be done for boost control, fuel mapping, and ignition timing. Of course Lucky would be able to explain in more depth how the process works, but this should give you a rough idea.

Lucky has been tuning the car the past few days and is putting the final touches on it tomorrow, so I'll have an update for MVS about how fast it feels in the next few days!
