Control Arm for my 1998 Volvo S70 t5

Post by kidmikeo »

I recently purchased a 1998 Volvo S70 T5, and I am looking to get the control arms and ball joints replaced. I already bought some Moog tie rods, but I am still looking for the control arms. The problem I am running into is the fact that there is a 2-bolt and a 4-bolt configuration. Could anyone please give me some directions on how to figure out which bolt configuration I have? (I have heard it has something to do with the numbers listed in the driver door panel.) Also, I am trying to avoid ScanTech parts, so if you know any sellers that have TRW, Moog, or any others, let me know.

Compare the above diagram to your car and you should be able to tell whether you have the 1 or 2 bolt variant. Just to clarify, the bottom diagram, labeled Alter 1 is the 2 bolt type.

As for the brands, I don't blame you for wanting to avoid Scantech. I'd suggest that you call up FCP Groton and see if they can get a hold of TRW or Meyle arms. Meyle is the OEM brand and is what you'd get if you bought them at the dealer. TRW is the OEM maker of most of the steering components on the 850's and generally makes pretty good stuff also. I know that IPD sells the control arm kits, but they're not cheap. It's about the same price you'd pay at the dealer.
