WTB: S70 T5 Lower Front Splash Guard

Post by liquidfluidity »

My other half got hung up on a snow bank and ripped the splash guard off - the one that runs side to side under the radiator. This is a 1998 S70 T5. Hoping I can find one here cheap as I can buy a new one for $65 shipped. LMK what you have and how much shipped to 50701. Thx ;)

You mean the large plastic airguide? (That's what it's called)
Easier buying a new one, most that are used are junk and it's so large that shipping is as much as just buying a new one.
$65 is very cheap, just buy it

Probably the same part. Hooks into the lower section of the nose piece and has a bolt on each end. Yeah, I figured the shipping was going to be the most prohibitive factor. It's so light but yet so friggin' big! When she told me to come out to garage, I just cringed and asked why...... Could have been worse I guess.

I am doing the "ghetto" fix soon using hardware stuff (gutter guard and roof vent plastic, about $12 total).
I am waiting for better weather to do it and post it in forum.
Don't waste another $70 on this stupid thing.
Stay tuned!

The "Stupid thing" is a necessary part.

It guides the airflow to the radiator to cool the engine in the summer.
It directs air for better airflow under the car thus better highway gas mileage.
It provides the correct snap in position for the outside air temp sensor
It gives some protection to the underside (not much, but some is better than nothing)!

The factory design is very bad, it easily breaks off and gone. I have gone through a few of these.

Re: Gas mileage thingy: not true. With or w/o it, the mileage is the same.
Protects the underside from debris: yes.

I have done this mod on my 2007 Honda Odyssey, see photos, the plastic gutter guard protects the AC condensor from rocks.

In a few days I will do the mod for my 98 S70 (gutter guard and roof vent, total = $12), I will post in the forum.
I guarantee that this mod will be much better than Volvo factory thingy.

I found a perfect one in the salvage yard for $12. And they have one more. Shipping might be pricey though depending on where you are.
