Got a great deal on an 02 s80 t6 2.9. It was too sweet too pass up, now i'm wishing i did. Drove the car and noticed that the tranny had a problem, no sweat as i got it at a steal from an auction. Car wasn't shifting properly. While changing the oil and filter i found tiny metal fragments in the pan, i knew to look out for tranny problems after that. The car ran like a dream for almost 2 months. The tranny started slipping while cold , shot out a code "3rd gear ratio... i think.( also had 2 codes pointing to the o2 sensor and my cruise control stopped working, got a code for that as well).
Checked and changed the filter again, lasted about 1 month this time. Then slowly it got worse, started slipping all the time. I had a local transmission rebuild shop take a look at it ( did I mention I live in the Bahamas, NO VOLVO DEALERSHIP OR SPECIALIST here). They said they could rebuild, after all it's a GM tranny, whats the big deal right?
After the rebuild the car shifted but with a whole different set of problems. The car would get up to 40mph and go into limp mode. Took it back to the shop, they did a diag and got a bunch of codes ,"shift solenoid A & B, stuck in performance mode, torque lock up , turbine.... I will post the codes later. One of the codes said "internal rom malfunction" i think. The guys at the tranny shop were saying that the tcm is now gone and thats the reason for all the other codes
"How could this be? It was fine before they worked on the tranny." So now theyre saying that the tranny is fine but it's the tcm causing my new issues.
Didn't trust them so I took it to a shop that has volvo scan tool, Theyre saying it does look like a faulty tcm.
ughhhhh!
Can i get a new or used tcm?
Forgot to mention, I can shift manually from 1-3 and back with no issues but if i shift to 4th it doesn't shift even though it shows 4th and after 10-15 seconds the car goes into limp mode. I'll shut down the car, start up again and I can manually shift again. The car drives seemingly well as long as i dont shift past 3rd. SMT
I will post codes so you, the experts here, can help me get a better feel for what i am facing.
You guys are always great help
