Volvo 244 Where do I put the transmission fluid?

Post by abrogard »

I just acquired an old Volvo 244 and it uses oil, water and fluid.

I see a filler cap on a thing with a pulley with belt attached to it which says 'use approved fluid'. I assume that is where I put transmission/power steering fluid, is it?

If I don't put any in what happens when it gets too low (it is off the stick now)? Power steering stops? Already happened, I think. Automatic transmission stops? Major bummer. I don't want that happening but I'm frightened to put fluid in this thing if it doesn't belong.

I've never seen anything like it. Why would it have a pulley on it? Must be pumping something I suppose...

Please help urgently... I have to go to work with this thing in a few hours...

the filler cap near the pulley with the belt attached is the power steering pump. In this u should put automatic transmission fluid.

In regards to the trnasmission, there is a dip stick towards the pack of the engine on the right when u r faceing it. Check the level if it is low put a funnel into the top of the dipstick hole. Into it put automatic trnasmission fluid till it reaches the right level.
