Make sure you use a bosch dist cap (other after market caps are junk....especially the black ones)
You also need to check/monitor the fuel pressure for poss stuck fuel pressure regulator. Should not be more than 3 Bars at idle.
One more thing....remove the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator at the fuel rail and see if any RAW fuel comes out from the regulator. The diaghram inside those regulators often puntured.
Dave....
Keep in mind.....spark plugs get flooded from ......Too much fuel pressure, weak spark, low compression...OR wrong timing.

Hi.
I had absolutely the same problem with my 244.
A couple of suggestions.
1. if you have "contact ignition" take a look at the "contact pair" (under the distribution cup and rotor) and if it is in bad condition replace it along with condenser!!
If your condenser is bad - you never start the car. Bad condencer leads to bad "contact pair".
My car started just with new condenser (the pair I replaced a couple of days later)
2. dpauto is absolutely right - wrong timing. But if you had no any work with distribution belt it is not so probable. But how long time ago do you check your distribution belt? Are you sure its Ok? May be it is just break off or lengthen out. if you know how to replace the belt - do it (or at least just combine all the marks for the ignition system)
3. Very very rich gas mixture. not so probable as the two above, but anyway possible.
4. In any case you always need to clean your sparks before the new starting of engine.
Regards, pri
P.S. Just in case - check the high voltage cables.

I had a very similar problem with my 740 wagon. My problem ended up being a faulty relay (I can't remember exactly what the relay was but it had something to do with the fuel system). I dried off my plugs, changed my oil (due to the gas in the oil), swapped out the relay and was good to go.
