Will a 2000 s70 front seats fit the 850?
Hi Folks, I just came across a seat of front seats from a 2000 S70 in excellent shape. Does anyone know if these will fit in a 1994 850? Thank you, Stew

Yes they will fit BUT you won't have any SIPS protection from the airbags in the seat as the 2000MY seats are fired electrically whereas your car requires mechanically (physical impact) to fire the SIPS bags. The 850 won't have any of the wiring or impact sensors required to fire the SIPS bags.
There is also an issue of the seatbelt clip attached to the seat being different as the 850 used a micro switch in the seatbelt clip (the part with the red button that you press to release the seatbelt) and the 2000MY seats employed an inductive proximity switch, the two are not electrically interchangeable so you would have to swap the seat belt clip and associated wiring.
Finally where the seatbelt attaches to the outboard lower portion of the seat is different, on the 850 there is a bolt that passes through a loop in the end of the seatbelt, the 2000MY cars employed a quick release clip - It is possible to make this work but last time I tried this I used a milling machine to cut a keyhole type slot in the seat bracket to accept the quick release bracket to the seat - Mike

Thank you for the reply Mike! The seats that are in the car are torn and ratty. I've looked for a year for serviceable replacements but only came up with these 70 seats. For the v70 seat control power options do I only need to supply 12volts DC to the seat module?

The leather skins and foam bolsters will fit on the 850 frames, I believe. I have a 1998 S70, which I think uses the same frames as the 850's including impact firing side airbag. i have previously used an 850 seat bottom foam to add heat to my s70's seats, which worked fine.
Swapping the skins take a bit of time, but allows you to move up several years in terms of the age of the seat. The bottoms are a snap, you only need to remove the hog rings around the outer edge of the seat. The seat back take a bit more work but not too much. I re-attached the seat using small zip-ties that are much easier to work with.
If you do not need/want heated seats you can also move all the way up to P2 seats from xc/v70's and s60's up through 2004. This is what I just did in my car. The major difference in the seats is the spacing of the headrests, the p2 cars are narrower so you need to keep your old headrests and put in new holes. I added a little piece of vinyl trim I made up from my old seat skins to cover the existing holes.

If this new seat has power slide you need to remove the 4 torx screws on the fuse panel to reveal position 39 or 40 (can't remember which but you can just put one in both if unsure) and fit a metal cased resettable fuse in the slot(s)

The car should be wired for electrically powered seats but the circuit breakers will be missing.
You will need a T25 Torx driver to remove the four screws as highlighted:

You need to take the entire top of the fusebox as the circuit breakers are the silver can things just visible at the outboard edge of the quick access hole:

The two silver cans are the fuses , one for the drivers seat and the other for the passenger seat, once the correct fuse has been pulled the seat wont move, the numbers for the fuses are embossed in to the cream coloured plastic (39 is for the left seat, 40 is for the right seat):

Hope this helps - Mike
