parasitic battery drain in 2002 s60

Post by chadschmidt17 »

i have a 2002 s60 awd and the battery has been draining, it only takes about a day for the battery to go dead. i have been trying to trouble shoot the problem by pulling fuses and checking which ones (when out) will stop the battery drain. i noticed that when i have fuse #'s 27,28 and 32 out that it will stop draining the battery, # 27 is for the "front door modules". # 28 is for "roof lamps, courtesy lamps, UEM garage door opener". # 32 is for "central electronic module:-ECPS-courtesy lamps-glove box lamp". I'm wondering why i have to have ALL three out at the same time to stop the battery drain. 2 of the fuses are for courtesy lamps but the other is for the front door module which seems to be unrelated to the courtesy lamps. i would really appreciate it if some had any idea about what is going on and how to fix it. thanks

Time to identify the parasitic draw. Use your meter and conduct the test to narrow down which fuse it actually is. Then narrow it further down. I think others will chime in on how the CEM needs to see the other modules shut down before it will.

You very well may have a bad door latch not shutting off int lights intermit this was a common prob the draw would have to be large to take down batt over night try open and closing each door and watch int light also a dealer can read alarm causes to determine what door is causing problem also a failing siren control can trip alarm and just flash lights good luck

I have a genetic battery drain question...
Connected vs disconnected...

Let's say you don't use the car for 2-3 weeks (airport parking or at home not used for 2-3 weeks).

What is the discharge rate with:

- Battery connected?
- Battery ground cable disconnected?

Has anyone done this experiment?

how old is the battery ?
did you allow enough time for the system to completely go to sleep,
A bad (unstable) battery could keep the ecm from shutting down modules.
Its a simple test to leave a battery charger on as you monitor the system to see it if shuts everything down.
Monitor one of the suspect fuses, don't engage the alarm , roll window down and close the door.

see this.

This video shows how to do the parasitic draw test by measuring fuses. It is faster and more accurate than pulling fuses one by one since pulling and putting a fuse back in can "wake up" some components.

I also have a weird drain that subsides when I remove the front door modules fuse. (removing left and/or right door module doesn't change it)
