DSTC or Not?

Post by JohannReinhard »

Hi all,

I've got a mushy brake pedal on a 2003 V70 T5, which tells me that the master cylinder is in need of replacement. I've already solved the transmission issues (B4 servo notwithstanding) and would like to get this resolved as quickly as possible so my dear mum can drive her car safely and I can have some peace of mind when I'm away on business. My question is this: how can I tell if the car has DSTC (Dynamic Stability Traction Control) or not? There are two master cylinders for this model, and while neither is inexpensive there is a hefty price gap between the two, not taking into account the probability that the two aren't interchangeable. I've looked at the manufacturing plate on the driver's side wheel well under the hood, but it didn't tell me much. Is there another plate I should look at? A logo somewhere on the body?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Probably not
Very few 03s had it
There would be a DSTC button on the lower center console

Thank you for the help JRL! Looks my dear mum got lucky, and has DSTC on her V70 based on the button on her center console. I'm assuming the button was omitted from cars that had it removed as a feature?

Button is there for a DSTC car until 2007 when it became standard across the line, so no button in 2007

Hi guys,

I just got a 2007 V70.
I dont have the DSTC button on the center console, and nothing in the Dash Computer about it (supposedly, there's an OFF/ON option in the dash computer).... I heard that DSTC was standard in 2007, I do I know if I have it ? I can screech the tires at start :)

Likely bad traction (tires or surface) , bad brakes or most likely a sticking TCV , broken vaccum lines to and from the tcv or a sticking throttle body.

At full load if the cars power seems to go up and down then replace the tcv and lines as needed. Its a common failure.

If its a short screech ( 5 seconds) and then traction control stops it you may be fine or just have tire or brake issues.

DSTC is fitted if the brake booster has the 5 wire connector on left side (left in conventional automotive sense of as noted sitting in driver's seat).
The three wire plug on RH side is pedal travel sensor and the 5 wire on left is for the Active Brake Booster that is a part of DSTC on P2 and P3 but not on P1.
