Noise in back when turning

Post by August »

Hello all who have helped me in the past!

I have a 1998 V70-xc with 203000+ miles, the car has been maintained fairly well, not perfect, but it is still in pretty good condition overall. My problem is that I've been getting a noise in the back when I make a right turn and accelerate. It sounds and feels like running over a loose gas or drainage grate on the road and when it started I didn't think about but it became obvious it is the car, it happens whenever I turn to the right and accelerate, like turning and going up a hill. I don't know if it is related but the track light also came on twice while driving straight, I switched it off and that was it. I should mention that I replaced the Track/ABS module about 6500-7000miles ago (with great directions from this site).

Any thoughts of what might be causing this?

Thanks,

Is your propshaft still installed? These are the early signs of the CV joint in the shaft going bad (more of a banging noise like what I believe you're describing) or the VC dying (more of a grinding noise when turning).

Thanks for the answer.

As far as I know my propshaft is still installed. I bought the car used a few years ago and I never removed it.

Is there any test I can preform to have a better idea if it is the CV joint?

Thanks,

Some people that have had theirs fail. You can try a search on 'AWD propshaft or driveshaft' for more accounts. A pretty common problem with the AWD models as they get older.
