Hi
I have and FTDI USB cable I just bought on ebay and cannot get it working with VOL-FCR. I am trying the FTDI version they have on their webpage.
When I push "start comms", it says "no valid USB device found".
I have searched the net, and tried a few things (e.g. set com port to COM1), I have installed new FTDI drivers, but cannot get it working.
Has anyone here managed to get it working on Win 8 with USB, and if so, do you have any advice? It is probably not so different to WIN 7, so even WIN 7 based advice would be greatly appreciated.

With Windows 7 it works fine. I had to configure the port to be Com 1. My version of VOL-FCR is an older version that was designed to be used with a serial port rather than USB.
You do have the OBD-II connector plugged into the car don't you? The power for the chip comes from the OBD port rather than the USB port.
VIDA will not run under Windows 8. It can't deal with the browser.

Thanks Lee,
What version are you using? I might search for an older version to see if that helps.
I get the same problem both in and out of the car, it seems like it isn't finding a file or something and stops even before trying to communicate with the chip on the cable.
Are you using the serial port version of VOL-FCR with a USB cable? If so, I might try it. Now there are three versions of VOL-FCR online, a serial, an FTDI USB version and another.

Serial one, version 1.3.0.6.(we have the same Vol-fcrcjep wrote:...What version are you using? Serial db9 to obdII.This version will work ONLY with serial cable and ONLY with COM1 port.
For serial cable & vol-fcr you will need an old laptop or desktop(home computer)with db9 port.
There are adapters which converts serial to usb,but as i heard, there are only few guys from volvospeed forum that made them work with those adapters.

Thanks again for the quick reply, If I had have known that I would've bought a DB9 cable, but now I have USB (which is handy).
If anyone has had any success using a USB FDTI cable with VOL-FCR, that can give me any tips, that would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Guys,
I have got it going now on WIN 8. I used the serial cable version of the software with a USB-OBD2 cable, with the USB cable set to COM 1. I had to lower the data transmission speeds to get it going right, but that is common I believe.

Not sure about Win8, shouldn't be any different, but what worked for me with a blue VAG-COM FTDI cable was the VCP (virtual com port) drivers directly from FTDI. Uninstall any existing driver for the FTDI cable, grab these:
http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
Install them, set the cable to COM1 via device manager and away you go.

Hi all. I have an 07 S60. Over the weekend I swapped the stereo and triggered the SRS warning. I knew better but accidents happen.
I downloaded FCR, but don't see an s60 selection. WIll another vehicle model work? I have it on a Win 7 netbook with a USB to Serial cable and an OBD2 to serial (to usb) cable. The serial to USB worked w/ my former BMW (using a different OBD / EBIDAS plug)
Can anyone direct me? Do I need to ONLY use a serial plug? Am I wasting time where the FCR will just not work with the S60? Is there a different version of FCR or another diag software to try?
Any help (besides going to the dealership) would be great!
Thanks

FCR will not clear SRS codes on P2 series cars or on post '98 V70s and S70s. You can use a Autel EU 702 scanner which has pre-loaded files for Volvo SRS systems or buy a Vida-Dice setup.
