Check Engine Light Code P0013

Post by tmoose27 »

I just replaced the spark plugs in my 2000 S40 and I linked the wires to the wrong two cylinders. Stupid mistake but I figured it wouldn't be a big deal so I simply put them back the correct way. Well before I fixed the problem the Check Engine Light came on. I figured it was going to read a misfire or something. I reset the computer at my auto shop here in town but it came back on. So know I am a little worried. I know the system is set up 1-3-4-2 so I connected the #1 to the #2 and #3 to the #4. The car runs fine and I can not figure out why the Check Engine light keeps coming back on. Have I messed up my car? Thank you for your time.

Well, from this list:
https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/volvo- ... uble-codes
P0013 ECM-6410 Exhaust camshaft reset valve Signal too low or signal missing

A simple google search come up with this:
Check Engine Light Code P0013

Exhaust Cam Position Actuator Open Circuit - Bank 1

Description:

How does a P0013 code trigger the check engine light? This code will trigger the check engine light under the following condition:

The comprehensive component monitor, referred to as the CCM, monitors the Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) circuit to the computer for high and low voltages. If the voltage falls below a set limit for a specific amount of time during this test, the check engine light will come on and set this trouble code.

Possible Causes:

Open or short in the VCT circuit
Open in the Vehicle Power circuit
Open or short in the VCT solenoid valve itself
Damaged computer (PCM)

Diagnostic Help:

This check engine light code is caused by a circuit fault of the VCT system. Testing should include all related wiring circuits, the VCT solenoid and PCM itself. Please refer to out article on Automotive Circuit Testing for help with this. You may also use the "Get Help" link if you need specifications or have any other related questions. Remember to refer to an appropriate manual for specific instructions.

Today my car started to overheat. I found a slight tear in the wire to the solenoid. Could this cause the engine to overheat? I have replaced the water pump just a couple months ago but I guess it could be bad. It is raining here so I have not had a chance to see if there is a leak in a radiator hose or if the radiator itself is leaking. It looks to be low on antifreeze. Thank you for your time.
