A lot of issues ... where to start?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

A lot of issues ... where to start?

Post by Yensid »

Hey guys,

I have been looking for a good forum for Volvo's since I recently purchased a 2000 S80. I had a 1992 Volvo 850 as one of my first cars and I absolutely loved it. I finally was able to purchase this S80 for 4k and it seemed like a great deal. However, now that I have had it for about a month, here are the Major Issues I am noticing:

*Battery was dead (replaced and no issues now)
*Coolant level low sensor was tripping, fixed it by just lightly tapping the float with a screwdriver.
*Brake Failure sensor keeps tripping randomly on start up. some times its on when I start the car, sometimes its not (brakes are fine)
*Drivers door lock sounds like it just grinds when I hit the lock button, I have to push it down manually to get it to lock.
*The light that says "Service" is on for the first 2-3 minutes of starting/driving the car, then goes away.

And now the most recent problem, which brings me to finding a forum to help me out with:

Drove the car to the store tonight, car started fine and drove fine. Went into store, got milk and cereal (Captain Crunch!! ) Came back out, car would not start, error Message says "SRS Airbag Service Urgent" and car will not start! It turns over just fine, but would not start at all. I disconnected the battery for awhile and looked up this issue on my phone and the solutions don't look very friendly to my wallet.

Anyways, connected the battery back and car started fine, got her home and parked her in the garage. Now my question is - Is there an area to start digging into? I am pretty mechanically inclined, I have any tool needed, for the most part, to test, pull apart, or look into with (minus that PPC-BSR Diag. tool). My first idea it to test each of the relays and make sure all the fuses are functional. But I would appreciate any input from anyone more experienced with these Volvos. I would love to get this car back in good running condition.

Thanks in advance!

MVS Mavericks would ask "does it has Check Engine Light ON, what are the codes"?

I recently replaced the brake control module with one from a junkyard. Seemed to fix several problems (brake warning lights, traction control lights, etc.).

No check engine Light, no codes. Just the Service Light for about 2-3 minutes.
