Help, Brake pad recomendations

Post by S70 Guy »

I need to replace my pads front and rear? My local stores, Pep Boys, AutoZone, Advance Auto, NAPA only carry a few and only for the front.
Brands = Bendix, Access, Duralast, WearEver and some other no name brand.
Any recomendations? I want low dust and no squeal.

IMHO you can have squeal-less pads (OEM), or dustless pads (aftermarket), but not both.

I put aftermarket pads on my 850 a few years ago, with backing grease, and have had minor squeal since then, only when the pads are cold.

There have been whispers here and there of finding the Happy Medium, but no chorus of agreement. However if anyone reading this has found brake pad nirvana, please speak up on the brand and technique, by all means.

I have had good results with the NAPA premium ceramic.

Do a search on ceramic to see past posts.

Everyone who has ever run anything but OEM pads on the rear has big problems with squealing. For the fronts, squealing shouldn't be a big issue as long as you use plenty of grease. That being said, the best replacements for the front pads are supposed to be the Mintex C-Tech's; I'll warn you now though that they aren't cheap.

Also keep in mind that the harder the barke lining material, the more frequently you will be replacing rotors. These things go through rotors faster then any car I have seen, mostly due to the small pad size and pad materials. I have a set of aftermarket pads in the rear (I don't remember which brand...) and they don't squeal at all. I'll try to find the brand.
