v70 engine swap
v70 engine swap
What are the issues going to be swapping out a 2.3 turbo motor that is blown with a 2.4 or 2.5 non-turbo motor. Just need a new motor. Can do all the work myself, but in need of sources to find a good complete motor with ideally less than 100,000 miles on it. Thanks!

There is a long list for the non turbo.
2.4 turbo will fit in with no issues other than it will be fuel sensitive. You can't swap engine control modules due to the network on that car so you are stuck with the high output ECM unless you spend a few hundred dollars with a custom tuner.

Do you mean it would be getting too much fuel? Would I have to change my injectors? What do you mean exactly about it being fuel sensitive? I understand the control module issue because it's linked to my vin number.

You would need most of the add on kit from the engine bay as the N/A engine used Denso engine management unlike the turbos ME7 system, quite a few differences. In addition to this the variable valve control system will be on the wrong side of the engine, inlet vs exhaust valve.
If you are thinking of adding just the engine block then putting all the turbo kit on to it then the turbo oil return pipe won't have anywhere to connect back to the sump as the port won't have been opened up in the block after it was cast - mike

If I am rebuilding another motor would the boss for the oil return line be there just not drilled and tapped??? My high pressure turbo ecm won't be able to adjust for the larger displacement? Will my intake and exhaust manifolds bolt up to the other motors, or what would be the easiest swap??

You can drop in a low pressure turbo motor. You don't have to change injectors usually but it would be safe to use the ones off the T5 2.3 motor. The LPT motor is 9:1 comp ratio, the HPT motors are 8.5:1. The higher compression ratio with an ECM for the lower comp ratio motor will lead to a greater tendency for spark knock if premium is not used. The sensitivity is for high octane. The fuel delivery will be adequate unless you decide to turn up boost and hot rod it. LPT motors dropped in place of HPT motors work well and it will run GOOD. You can't use a NA engine without swapping the head from the turbo motor to get CVVT correct. A NA motor with no turbo run by a turbo ECM is going to be a slow pig with a check engine light on all the time.
