Key FOB stopped working

One of the two remote control key FOBs stopped working all of a sudden with our S70. I checked the battery and it is ok, 3.1v. The other key FOB still works so presumably the controller in the car is ok.
I asked about reprogramming the key FOB in case it lost synchronization with the car but have been told this can only be done at a dealer.

Does anyone have any ideas, short of buying a new key FOB and having it programmed at a dealer?

Swap batteries on FOBs, no-load voltage is mediocre gauge of battery condition.

I had a similar problem with two key fobs for my '97 855 GLT. Back in September I opened up the unit, cleaned the contacts and added a thin copper strip to the switch mechanism. The fobs have been working fine since then.

Yep, replace battery and clean the contacts. Use a pencil eraser.
