air filter dirty in diesel

I have a 1985 760 diesel with 105,000 miles. Bought used runs well except air filter clogs in less than 3,000 miles (turns absolutely black) what gives?

Well I don't know much about diesels, but does your car have EGR? Maybe it is soot from the EGR system being blown back out the filter when you turn off the car. Try cleaning your throttle body and EGR valve & see if that helps.
