2001 S40 exhaust leak before catalytic converter

Hello, my catalytic converter assembly has cracked for the second time within 73k. I have been told that it is a poor design because the metal mesh before the catalytic converter rusts and falls apart over time due to vibrations and flexing. I would like to know if there are any better aftermarket solutions that are better and cheaper than OEM which costs $800. Thank you for ahead of time for the feedback!
