2007 XC90 V8 low idle speed then no starting

I am baffled, this 07 XC90 V8 has twice now left us stranded.
It ran just fine other than a message stating 'DSTC temporarily unavailable' or something like that.
Even with that message it ran and drove fine. We parked and went inside for about an hour.
Upon return, started the vehicle and it would barely idle, died when accelerator pushed. After several attempts at a normal start, it simply would not even attempt to start. We changed the fuel pump fuse after about ten minutes and wow it started.
Now 2 weeks later the wife had the same things happen again. Fortunately it was in the driveway. I said AH HA, fuse blew....Nope, ALL fuses were good. When checked, NO codes. I'm guessing fuel pump.
That is when I started reading on here, PEM modules ect... I went looking for the module, Right Rear tire off, inner fender liner, NO PEM. I put it back together.
Now the STRANG part. For giggles I tried to start it...It fired right up no hesitation.
What sort of oddity am I looking at. I need a point in the right direction.
