1996 Volvo 850 Turbo - Need to replace center hood latch

Post by JasonJarrah »

Long story short, the cable to the latches on the sides broke, the middle latch was already broken when I bought it. Today I was able to grab the cable and yank it until the passenger side came unlatched, however the driver's side was toast. The cable was completely detached from the latch. Used a hack saw to get the black U shaped piece that is welded to the hood off (hood is now completely open), now I'm wondering how I can go about replacing just the center latch. I'm able to find the parts online and all, but my confusion is what the "hook" part of the latch is supposed to be hooking itself to. It doesn't look too pretty with the hood ziptied down in the middle. Any advice helps, thanks guys!

Volvo calls it a pawl. The latch is part number 9133345. It lists for $53.03 but you can buy it for under $45.00 less freight from some of the dealership online web sites.

I had one break and I got a replacement from a Pick n Pull salvage yard for around $5.00
