99 S70, Where to find lower ball joints?

Post by ashlee2319 »

I need new lower ball joints for both of my control arms.
Instead of just buying 2 new control arms, i was wondering if i could just buy the ball joints separately?

If anybody knows where to find some, please let me know. Thanks.

They are integral with the control arm and aren't removable. These days they aren't awfully expensive in a non genuine brand. Take a look at IPDs range on the link above.

After having replaced lower control arms on a couple of my vehicles (non-volvos), I am super excited that they are built-in to the lower control arms. Replacing those ball joints is such a pain (especially when you only have the Autozone loaner press).
I was looking at them today actually and you can find them for less than $40 a piece.

Unless you really enjoy changing them avoid the really cheap ones. OEM (Lemforder) are great but they are expensive. The Meyle HD arms are good as well but they really haven't been widely available long enough to get a true read on how long they last. Thus far I haven't heard any complaints about the Meyle HD versions so that is a very encouraging sign. MOOG brand should be very good as well but they have limited distribution.

The stuff from Scan Tech or that are just identified as "Aftermarket" without an actual manufacturer name are just garbage and you will be lucky to get 6 months out of them.

Ok, but what about the aftermarkets from FCP? I believe they are just 'FCPEuro' brand.

Stick to Lemforder ($120) or Moog ($65).
