2003, S80 D5, Stereo & Phone Swapout

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2003, S80 D5, Stereo & Phone Swapout

Post by Lynxjava »

Hello guys,

I was thinking of changing my stereo on my 2003 S80 which has a HU-801 with the phone module. I understand that the battery HAS to be disconnected and the green looms on the heat/fan not to be removed to avoid Volvo computer bringing up error messages...

My questions is; once this is done, does the new stereo still retain the dolby surround and make full use of the umpteen speakers the car has? I know the HU-801 is connected to the car amp so would a new stereo need to be connected to the Volvo amp or a into a new amp?

Second question is; If i decide to keep the HU-801 but remove the phone module, is this possible? I am guessing the Volvo computer will recognise it has been removed and bring up error/fault messages. Are these error/fault messages be removed by VIDA/DICE software?

Any help, would be great.
