89 volvo 240 dl running problem
Ive been trying to figure out this problem for a week or so now. My car starts up very rough and I need to tap the gas to keep it running. When driving it runs really bad. When I accelerate the rpms jump way up for no reason then drop suddenly. Ive been told its probably something to do with the air intake system but I cant figure it out. Ive checked the MAF and it didnt seem to be that. I have not been able to find and holes or cracks in any of the hoses either. When I took off the MAF i saw what looked like oil or fuel in the hose . There wasnt much but is that normal. Any ideas on what else to check would be awesome. Thanks.
Hey I don't know much about your 240 dl but here are a few things that might help you. These are general to most all cars, my roomate knows about cars and bosch efi but not the volvo in specific. The fluid in the intake is most likely oil from the crankase breather, this can foul the MAF. When the MAF is fouled you cannot see it it need to be checked by a dealer or checked with a known working MAF. It could also be the throttle position sensor on the throttle body. If it is bad the ECU can get confused about what the throttle is doing. Last it could also be the idle stablizer valve, a bypass of the throttle body to controll the idle.
his guess would be that is the MAF, he also suggests to check the crankcase breather stuff.
again these are not 240 specifice.
