99 C70: Rotor size on 17" Aquila wheels?

Post by T1G3R »

I have a '99 C70 that needs brakes. The rotors have a sizable lip on them and I'm noticing some pad fade when the brakes are hot/have been used a lot.

I'm planning on doing the rotors and pads soon, and I can't tell what size rotors I have. I am going to have to borrow garage space to do the work, so I can't get the car up and get wheels off to measure the caliper just yet.

How likely is it that I have the larger rotor size vs the 280mm? I am going to order the rotors but don't want to get the wrong ones. I can provide the VIN if that will help. It's the HPT model with 17" Aquila wheels (I think, they are the closest match from the pictures on here).

Thanks!

Measure them. If all else fails, order both and return the wrong ones.

Ok, but am I correct that I have to measure the back vs the front? I keep seeing that it's not the front/easier-to-access dimension. I can't take the wheel off without having to borrow garage space (urban living). If it's the front, then I can obviously do that.

I'm pretty sure 280 refers to diameter of the thing. You'll need to take the wheel off to measure. 17" would not have been std I don't think. Plain C70 or C70 HPT? An HPT would possibly have the 302's. Wish I could help more. I don't know if there's some defining thing to look at caliper wise to figure this out. Bring it to a small shop someplace nearby and toss them a $20.00 to pop a wheel and measure it for you.

Or drive to a parking lot and jack it up yourself to pull a wheel.

This site (work/family safe): http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/199 ... 9_c70.html

Suggests that the C70 HPT came with 17" rims standard. They also indicate that the rotors are the smaller ones. I know this has 17" rims because of the tires I have on there.

And yes, it's a diameter measurement, but I can get a measuring tape in there without pulling the wheel. Are you sure it's the inner one I have to measure, and not the outer diameter?

11 inch is about 280 MM 11.5 is 292. So 280 in the front and I'm not too sure about how the rear rotors work size-wise.

From poking around at rockauto.com, 280 for the front and the rears only come in one size.

I don't think the 302s existed here until the '00 V70R, then made their way onto the C70 models. But I'm not positive, and might be wrong. Heard it somewhere.

Just post a picture, we can probably tell you if they're 280 or 302.
