turn blinkers/signals don't work

turn blinkers/signals don't work

I have a 97 850. Lately it started making a very loud static like scratchy noise that went away when either turn/blinker signal was put on. Today the noise went away permanently but the blinkers now don't work at all. Anyone have an idea as to what is wrong and how difficult it its to fix
