2001 S80 T6. No start, backfires.

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2001 S80 T6. No start, backfires.

Post by greybeardbirddog »

I bought a 2001 S80 T6 Executive that had a "broken radiator". Car has 73,000 miles on the clock and a great body and interior.

I replaced the radiator. The car started after the radiator was replaced, but only ran for a few seconds then died. Has not started since. Backfires when trying to start.

Showed a code for Cam shaft position sensor, I replaced and no change, still no start.

Now shows P1238, the only code thrown.

I have VERY little money invested in this car, doing the work myself, purchase price was very little. I just want the car as my commute/on call car.

Ideas??????

With the ignition off, disconnect the MAF sensor and try and start it again.

Replaced Crankshaft position sensor, started right up! BUT, now have other issues!

Boostered5cyl, you were right, MAF is bad.

Has a ticking sound when running, and white exhaust:(

Sounds like I have a blown head gasket and a bad lifter. Am thinking of getting a head from Clearwater for $500.00 and replacing head gasket and head.

Ideas? How bad is the job if replacing the head and gasket?
