Hey~
I am so glad I happened upon this place. Anyhoo, I have a 2001 volvo s40 that I love. the 'check engine' light went off and I took it into a shop where I was told it was the mass air sensor. I had it replaced, but that shop was burglarized (I'm not kidding) and the thingy that resets the dash was stolen.
So now I take the thing into the local Jiffy Lube only to be told they can't change my oil. The guy was going on and on as to why (short story: they are not allowed to use the part they were using, and until they get the right part in they cannot perform the service).
So here's my question: when I take this thing into a dealer, how much do you think the oil change will run me and do you think they'll reset my dash board?
I am a girl, so I feel like these people just see me coming.

Step one is arming yourself with information. You just did that, so you'll be fine.
1. Hold down the odometer button
2. Turn the ignition so all the lights come on
3. Keep holding the odometer down for 30 secs or until the service light starts flashing
4. Release the odometer button while service light flashing
5. Turn off and on again to check
I just put it on this page
https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/reset.php
...and got the info from this thread

Call around about the oil change. Call independent Volvo repair shops, they'll do it and won't feed you bizarre stories or charge too much. Yellow pages.

It might have something to do with the fact that the service light comes on and stays on for about a minute, and then it goes off.
I am not sure whether or not the 'button' is jammed though.
