240 wagon won't start

1993 4-cly 240 wagon

engine will not start- battery is good, light, horn work

engine will start if I attach jumper cables from running car as soon as I disconnect cables engine dies

Any idea where the problem is?

clean and tighten your battery terminals. with headlights on measure voltage drop from positive post to positive connection on starter you should have very low reading (.02v) do the same on the negative side you should have the same result if you get a higher reading you have a poor connection or a bad cable. are you sure your battery is good? headlignts and horn can work and battery still not have enough life to start the car.
