I just acquired V70 XC ,2001(99K miles)being not aware of the transmission problems. No warning lights. When I first drove at the dealer the clunk was not apparent. Later as I left the dealer the clunk was noticeable as you start and take off and also when you slow down to stop. You notice it also when you put it in reverse gear. I took the car to the local Volvo dealer. There were no codes .They updated the soft ware. Electronic module had no problems and that it was good.
They told me that updating the software might solve the problem but it if it still persists then it must be something internal and that transmission may have to be replaced. I still have the problem.
Flushing with new Transmission oil will not solve the problem and is a waste according to the Volvo dealer.
What should I do with no codes for errors,And no warning lights?

You flushed the transmission ?
Was that by means of a flushing machine? Or was it drained and refilled.
Dealers are trained by head office. Head office are trained by engineers who have little real world experience.

Change the fluid several times, three to be exact
DO NOT power flush it!
You need to do a series of 3 drain and fills, (the equivalent of a full flush), have the dealer reset the fluid counters, reset the adaptions and do a drive cycle.
You said they did the software but did the do the rest of the adaption work (see above), you need to ask.
If not, have them do that after you do the fluid change but do not let anyone talk you into doing a power flush, just drain and fills only.
If this does not help you can probably get away with installing a new or rebuilt valvebody (only) and save thousands over a complete tranny replacement

Check first the engine top and lower mounts as they tend to wear and give too much play. Also check the transmission axles and transmission fluid level.
I would get a second advice and if indeed the transmission has issues, I would return the car were it was bought from. Because many 2001 and 2002 vehicles had broken transmissions at low miles. It was a design issue.
Like others say, you may try replacing some of the transmission fluid, but from the stories I've read on forums, when the transmission starts behaving, it's too late. It cost several thousands dollars to have it replaced, and often times Volvo replaces it with a partially refurbished one that also starts having issues sooner or later. It a matter of 3 to $6000 at the end of the line.
