06 S80 T6 Radiator replacement

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

06 S80 T6 Radiator replacement

Post by neworleans »

Hello everyone,

I hope everybody is doing well.
I need to replace the radiator on my 06 S80 T6, I haven't purchased the radiator yet, looked at FCP website and ebay for now, FCP has a Nissen for 200 bucks, cheaper ones are available on ebay.

I have never replaced a radiator before but found out that it comes out below the car after disconnecting the ac condenser from it.

I'd like to keep the cost low as much as possible, which radiator would you guys recommend? Will I need anything else other than just the radiator? Is it any hard to replace it? I am working on my volvos and so far replaced timing belt, water pump, pcv on my 850. I think with some guidance I could replace the radiator as well, but still wanted to get your advice before I attempt.

Thanks in advance.

Make sure you specify turbo or non turbo... Sometimes they have extra oil cooler lines in them. But its not too hard. Everything mounts to the radiator - ac condensor, fan and intercooler (if applicable). Once you unbolt all those things and remove the hoses, the radiator is only held in with two bolts on the sides via some plastic 'ears'.

Thank you. When disconnecting the transmission lines I am sure it will leak out some, I didn't see any transmission fluid dipstick, will I be ok if I just re connect them? Or is there a way to add some ATF after replacement?

get new "O" rings for the transmition lines (4) two per line, also those plastic connect couplings for the transmission lines.

It's between the master cylinder and top engine mount. The handle is typically broken off so it'll look like a steel tube with a yellow cap.

That's how you check the level and fill it. I realize it will seem a little ridiculous, however on the GM cars, the tube is a healthy size so you can actually fill it at a decent rate. Volvo elected for a smaller one.
