1998 Volvo V70 Base Model, Fuel Pump Conversion How to?

Post by 72Demon »

I have a 1998 Volvo V70 base model, the fuel pump went out on it, and I ordered one from HighFlow Fuel Systems. They say its a direct replacement Fuel Pump & Strainer. It does not come with instructions on any modifications for installation. Their ad states that many Matthew Volvo Forum members have bought the same fuel pump kit. I can not figure out what needs to be swapped or changed for it to work in a 1998 Volvo V70. I can not find any write ups for my installation or for the parts that came with the kit. In fact, I can't even figure out how the parts that came with the kit would work to strain the fuel pump it came with. I have attached a picture so you can see the original and the replacement fuel pumps. The shiny/white parts are the new fuel pump kit, the discolored parts are the original fuel pump & parts. I called HighFlow Fuel and explained that I could not figure out the installation. They forwarded me a guide that is not for my model Volvo nor does it have the same fuel pump/or installation items that they sent me in the kit. They also said to post in Matthew Volvo Forum for help. So far I am not too impressed with High Flow Fuel systems Volvo Fuel Pump kit. My V70 has been inop for a week and a half. My picture of just the kit, is the second kit they sent me since my original kit was missing some parts, (the black rubber washers, and small white plastic pieces). What I can not figure out is, how does the strainer hook up where it would strain all the fuel for this pump? I had thought the kit was missing a piece that would cover the hole on the side of the pump and another piece that would cover the hole at the bottom of the pump pick up. The large strainer does not connect to the pump at all, and the smaller one leaves the side hole/pick up and bottom hole/pick up exposed. This can be seen in my third picture, I also put the black tube through the pump since that is the way the kit came.

If anyone has any idea on how this kit will work for my Volvo please help!!!!

Thank you for reading my post.

Personally, I would return it and get your money back. The pump is wrong, the sock is wrong, there is no chance it will work with your car.

Head over to rockauto and buy a stock fuel pump replacement.

Thanks for the replies. I don't understand how Highflow Fuel Systems, Axiom Performance are saying that members from Matthews Volvo forum have successfully made the conversion with their kit. I did read through the stephan posts but they are not for the same kit I have. This pump will work if I could figure out how to hook up the filter/strainers to the pump. Unfortunately the old filter/strainer will not hook up either to this new pump. Has anyone on this forum used this kit before?

Ask your vendor to document their claims, give this job to them, since they made this claim.

I have asked them to show me how it works on a Volvo, and they referred me here and sent me a link that does not apply to my model at least or the kit they sent. I was hoping someone really was successful with this kit, and might know what's needed. I asked for instructions on how their strainer attaches to their pump or a refund.

I would just get a refund.its best not to "try" to make it work and then be out the dough. Amazons has the exact pump for dirt cheap. I paid way too much for mine and was in a bit of freak out. That's just my 2 cents.
